The Skin Radar February 19, 2018 0

If you don't have the genes or a team of professionals like Ky to take care of you after childbirth, here are some crib sheets to rock like her after the birth of your baby.

Eat and Drink Well

Your body went through a lot of changes during pregnancy, as well as post-pregnancy. You need to recover from the birth of your newborn by eating well and drinking well. The weight gained in the nine months helped in your recovery and for breastfeeding, if you opt to. You will need to eat a healthy and balanced diet so that you can be a healthy and active mother to care for your little one. One important job as a new mother postpartum is to never skip or forget about your meal no matter how knackered or busy you are. It is also important you keep yourself well-hydrated throughout the day.

Try to plan something simple and healthy for yourself and also for the sake of your baby:

Grains: Rice, oats, cereal grain, whole wheat, brown rice, and oatmeal.

Vegetables: All kinds of vegetables! Dark green, red, and orange vegetables, legumes (peas and beans), and starchy vegetables.

Fruits: Any kind of fruits--- fresh, canned, frozen, or dried, and may be whole, cut-up, or pureed.

Dairy: Fat-free or low-fat milk, as well as those that are high in calcium.

Protein: Low-fat or lean meats and poultry focus on more fish, nuts, seeds, peas, and bean

Sleep and Rest Well

A newborn needs to be fed, changed and comforted approximately every 3 hours, day and night. For first-time moms, this can be really overwhelming. A solid and good quality  8 hours sleep may not happen again for the next few months, but here are some recommendations on how you can transit better.

If it is possible during the first few weeks, you should be relieved from all chores other than feeding the baby and taking care of yourself. It may be a few minutes of naps several times in a day but these can all add up. Feel free to excuse yourself for a nap or to feed your baby as you are not obligated to entertain friends and family members who visit.

You should also get outdoors for some relaxation or even light exercises as advised by your doctor. After the first 2 - 3 weeks, begin to introduce a bottle to your baby during nighttime feeding once or twice a week. This is so that you can have a longer period of rested and uninterrupted sleep with some help from the daddy.
