3 Feminine Issues That Every Woman Will Encounter

There’s an old adage: Men age like a fine wine, while women age like a glass of milk. Aging differs between men and women, through mind, body, and their emotional capacity.

Most women spend much of their adult lives juggling the demands of multiple roles. Women’s roles often include family obligations, care taking for children and/or elderly parent and work responsibilities as well as other roles. As demands increase to fulfill these roles, women can feel overwhelmed with time pressures and unmet obligations. They may feel a sense of failure in not being able to meet expectations for themselves and others. Often times women spend more time meeting the needs of others rather than nurturing their own needs.

Once women hit 40 years old, they also become more conscientious of their appearance, which stifles the mood. In fact, out of 1,100 adults over the age of 40 were polled, 33 percent of women were concerned for the sagging, wrinkling, and weight changes that were occurring in their older age. It's the reason why so many women turn to plastic surgery, tummy tucks, and Botox injections for a solution to their aging appearances.

Here, we share insights on 3 of the most important feminine issues faced by most women.

1. Breast Cancer
A study found that breast cancer now is being diagnosed more frequently among women living in Asian countries, especially among younger women. This is an alarming trend. The researchers don't explain why this is happening. In the past, the diets and lifestyles of Asian women supported a lower risk of breast cancer compared to Western women.

The average woman living in an Asian country:
  • eats more fresh vegetables
  • is closer to her ideal body weight
  • is more physically active
  • is less likely to drink significant amounts of alcohol
It's possible that some of the increase in breast cancer diagnoses is the result of more younger women in Asian countries adopting a typical Western diet and lifestyle. Research has shown that Asian women who live in the United States and have adopted a typical Western diet and lifestyle have breast cancer rates similar to the general U.S. population.

It's also possible that other environmental factors are contributing to the rising rate of breast cancer among women living in Asia. Much has been written about higher levels of pollution that have been brought about by rapid industrial growth in China. Environmental factors such as air and water pollution have been associated with cancer.

The researchers also point out that a large number of women in Asia (70%) don't get regular mammograms. Because breast cancer rates are increasing, Asian governments and healthcare systems will have to work harder to boost awareness of breast cancer risk and the importance of annual screenings.

A study also found that 80-85% of breast lumps were benign, especially for women below 40 years of age. But how do you know? Learning to distinguish your breasts' normal lumps is key to your long-term health and to lower the risk of breast cancer.

Like so many topics in health care, there’s controversy on how helpful breast self-exams are in finding cancers, but it’s great to know how your breasts normally look and feel so you’ll be able to tell if there are changes later. Once you’re in your twenties, you should begin doing a self-breast exam every month about the same time; 3-5 days after your menstrual period ends. This will help you get to know how your breasts feel normally. You will then be able to notice if any new or different lumps develop. Remember, some lumps are normal, but if you’re worried at any time, talk to your health care provider.

More than half of all women occasionally have lumpy, painful and swollen breasts. The good news is that nine out of ten breast lumps are not cancer but just benign conditions.

There are a variety of benign conditions that cause lumps and bumps. Here are several types of lumps, and what to do if you find one.

2. Beautiful Breasts
Every woman, in some way or another, is a boob woman. Breasts inform not only how we get dressed in the morning, but also our sexual identities, our health profiles, and our imaginations. This month, we aim to help you appreciate and flaunt the world’s most discussed and desired body part. So in celebration and in fascination, here’s a quick manual to better breasts.

GETTING TO KNOW THEM: Under the skin of these ladies, your life-nurturing organs are composed of basically milk glands, padded by fat that protects the glandular tissue and gives shape to the breasts. Suspensory ligaments (Cooper’s ligaments) run from the skin through the breast and attach to chest wall muscles to support them against gravity and the bouncing impact during daily activities.

Those girls undergo mega makeovers as they see us through all major (and most painful) life events: Puberty, prom, pregnancy, and menopause. The massive ballooning followed by involution after pregnancy and nursing is probably the most traumatic change for most women: Loss of fullness as the breast tissue (the “stuffing”) shrinks slightly from your pre-baby size, plus laxity in the overstretched skin and suspensory ligaments spell a saggy disaster. Add constant gravitational forces into the equation, it’s no knocker shocker that our bosom buddies actually age 3 years faster than the rest of the body on the average.

Besides adopting better breast habits, clinically-proven treatments can hold back the dreaded boob droop. Stay perky with Ulthera, a FDA-approved ‘firm’ favourite that lifts and rejuvenates lined, saggy skin of the décolletage by inducing a collagen surge with non-invasive ultrasound waves. Perfect your cleavage with Revitalift, which further targets stubborn wrinkles and restores healthy skin turgor for a supple smoothness ready to take on the plunging neckline.

THE PERFECT PAIR: Girls want them. Boys drool over them. Magazines worship them. While size matters, model mammaries have 6 key features that define the ideal feminine curve, which is equally – if not more – important to their overall allure.

In addition, the symmetry of your set, their position and proportion in relation to your chest wall, as well as the size of the nipple relative to the breast, are other vital stats that determine how your rack measures up to the ideal, too.

Up to 50% of women who have undergone childbirth via vaginal delivery will have some degree of vaginal laxity. Yet, this problem is rarely discussed. Just like skin, vaginal tissue is made up of collagen fibers. During vaginal childbirth these tissues can overstretch, damaging the collagen and creating a feeling of looseness (laxity), especially around the vaginal opening.

Women who experience this loss of tightness may also notice a decreased feeling of sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. These changes can affect a woman’s overall sexual health and are a quality of life issue for millions of women every year.

In a survey, 1 of over four hundred women who had vaginal deliveries, nearly half reported some level of concern with vaginal looseness, otherwise known as vaginal laxity.

Traditional treatment options available for vaginal laxity range from pharmacological (hormonal, tightening creams and herbal sprays), through behavioural therapies (Kegel exercise to retrain and tone the pelvic floor muscles), to more invasive surgical procedures. While pharmacological and behavioural therapies are non-invasive, they have limited efficacy. On the other hand, surgical procedures, which involve the narrowing of the vagina along with repair of pelvic floor muscles and fascia, achieve a better final result especially in more severe cases, at the price of higher associated risks such as scarring, infection and painful intercourse post-operation in addition to the recovery time after surgery.

Professional Solution: Intima Touch™

Intima Touch™ is specially designed to address and restore vaginal laxity in a painless, non-surgical manner. It uses Viveve's patented radio frequency technology to stimulate new collagen production in the treated vaginal tissues, restoring its suppleness and firmness over 30-90 days after the treatment.

Intima Touch™ requires no anesthesia and can be completed in about 30 minutes. At the beginning of the procedure, the doctor will insert a Viveve treatment tip, about the size of your thumb, just inside the vaginal opening. The tip is circumferentially moved around the opening, delivering pulses of painless radiofrequency energy to the collagen fibers that make up the underlying tissues, while also cooling the vaginal surface.

In two clinical studies, women who reported an increase in vaginal laxity following childbirth underwent the treatment with the following results:
  • Improved and sustained vaginal tightness was shown by 88% of the women at 12 months after treatment
  • Women who were treated experienced a 68% mean increase in their vaginal laxity scores at 12 months
  • Improvement in sexual satisfaction was maintained through 12 months after treatment
  • No serious adverse events were reported in either study
