The One Stitch Facelift Workshop

Last Saturday, I attended The Sloane Clinic's Silhouette Soft Threadlift Workshop at the Grand Hyatt with my friend Aida.

The first half of the workshop will be covered by Dr Chua Han Boon who will be sharing more about Silhouette Soft. The second half will be taken care of by Dr Tan Ying Chien, who is the consultant plastic surgeon at The Sloane Clinic. He will speaking about Silhouette Lift.

So what is Silhouette Soft® and who is it suitable for?

The procedure is for anyone who experiences sagging skin, deep lines/wrinkles as well as softening of facial contours. It is suitable for all skin types & is best recommended for men & women above the age of 30 who are trying to slow down the speed of aging and yet does not want to undergo a surgery. Unlike traditional surgical facelifts, Silhouette Soft® does not require surgical incisions or stitches. The threads are inserted via a needle, making this a minimally invasive procedure with very little downtime. The lifting effect is visible immediately and over time, the threads help stimulate the skin’s own collagen production process, resulting in a firmer and smoother appearance of the treated areas

Silhouette Soft® can be used to treat various parts of the face including:

Facial contours, Lower jaw, Eyebrows, Cheeks and Cheekbones.

Best For: Targeting specific trouble spots of the face, for a tailor-made non-surgical facelift.

What is the procedure like?
The procedure takes about 30 minutes. After a local anaesthetic is injected to the treated area, the doctor inserts the Silhouette Soft® thread under the skin at a precise depth and position. No incision is required as the Silhouette Soft® thread is inserted using a fine needle. Under the skin, the Silhouette Soft® thread is held in place by innovative absorbable cones that suspends and lifts saggy tissues to a more optimal position.

Depending on the lift that you desire, 1-4 Silhouette Soft® threads may be placed per area.

What results can I expect?

The benefits of Silhouette Soft® include tighter skin, improved skin texture and renewed facial contours. Skin on the face and neck is firmer and visibly tighter. The procedure also smoothes out lines and wrinkles, leaving you with a more refreshed and youthful appearance.

Facial contour is redefined as skin regains its firmness
Lower jaw - Volume of the cheek is redefined
Cheeks and cheekbones look fuller. Nasolabial fold is diminished
Eyebrows - Outer edge of the eyebrow is raised, eyes appear more refreshed

Notice how all the patients still look like themselves after the procedure? Because I've seen a few ladies who have undergone the traditional facelifts and they look so different after! Some of them look devastatingly scary. I mean, no one wants to look worse than before after surgery.

How long do the results last?

The visible benefits of Silhouette Soft® can last up to 18 months. Some patients will enjoy longer lasting benefits, depending on each individual's ageing process and body's response to the threads. You can enhance the results of your Silhouette Soft® by combining them with other non-invasive face-lifting procedures such as Ulthera® or Thermage®.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Silhouette Soft® can be used as a single treatment or in combination with fillers,  BOTOX® and anti ageing supeerstars like Ulthera and Thermage  for optimal natural-looking results.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Silhouette Soft® is not recommended for those who are allergic or sensitive to biomaterials. For more details, it is wise to schedule an appointment with our doctors at The Sloane Clinic™ for a consultation to discuss your options.

What happens immediately after the procedure?

As with any cosmetic treatment, some slight swelling, redness or bruising may sometimes be observed but it will gradually disappear within days. There is sometimes a slight wrinkling of the skin (required for optimization of the treatment), which will disappear over a few days.

Is there any downtime?

Unlike a surgical facelift, Silhouette Soft® does not require a hospital stay, a general anaesthetic or a long recovery period. There is minimal downtime involved. You can apply makeup immediately and continue with your normal activities right after the procedure.

Any post-treatment protocols to be followed after the procedure?

During the week following the treatment, do not undergo any dental surgery and avoid facial massages or other aggressive face treatments. For the first few weeks, avoid contact sports and sleep on your back. In the event that you experience any discomfort of the treatment site, you may take mild oral painkillers as prescribed by the doctor or contact The Sloane Clinic for advice.

Is Silhouette Soft® safe?

The components used in Silhouette Soft® are natural and fully absorbable. Polylactic acid or PLA has been used for many years in various pharmaceutical and medical applications such as suture thread, orthopaedic pins, screws and nails for bone fractures. It is also used in new biodegradable stent trials. The development of Silhouette Soft® is based on 6 years of experience in suture suspension with cones used in reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery in the United States.

Dr Tan Ying Chien then proceeded to talk about the Silhouette Lift procedure.

Silhouette Lift™ uses a new type of suspension sutures developed specifically for the procedure. The Silhouette Sutures™ offer significantly greater lift thanks to their unique bio-resorbable cones.

The Silhouette Sutures are made of a non-absorbable polypropylene strand, which holds several flexible, absorbable hollow cones. These cones allow tissue growth inside and around the hollow cones, creating a much stronger anchoring mechanism compared to traditional sutures.

One of the most unique features of the Silhouette Sutures is their ability to be retightened after a few years to provide extended longevity to the face lift.

The difference between Silhouette Soft and Silhouette Lift is that the latter is a minimally invasive procedure, hence surgery is required. One of the most unique features of the Silhouette Sutures is their ability to be retightened after a few years to provide extended longevity to the face lift. With Silhouette Lift®, you can get a lasting and more natural result as compared to traditional facelifts. The downtime is definitely lesser as it is less invasive.

Q&A Session

The doctors mentioned that Silhouette Soft® is not recommended for those who are allergic or sensitive to bio-materials. Being allergic to almost everything (IE: Seafood, Benzoyl Peroxide, Dust, etc), I had to find out what happens if a patient only finds out that he/she is allergic to Polylactic acid which is used in Silhouette Soft after the procedure. I mean how are you supposed to know if you are allergic to something before hand? As advanced as technology may be, it may still backfire. Yes, shit can happen. My aunt for example, was allergic to the material of the stitches used on her after giving birth. Dr Tan mentioned that if a patient was to discover about the allergy only after the procedure, a steroid can be injected to reduce the inflammation. If the former does not help, a surgery will have to be perfomed to dissolve the threads.

And last but not least, thank you doctors for such an insightful workshop!

I also took home a very nice goodie bag with two full sized products, and some testers which I will probably review in my next post. Thank you, the team from The Sloane Clinic.
